Following a meeting organised by new County Councillor for Andover North, Cllr Kirsty Locke, Kit Malthouse MP and myself, I'mdelighted to report that the County Council's Executive Member for Transport, Rob Humby has announced that engineers WILL develop plans for a Puffin Crossing outside Roman Way Primary School.
As I have previously said the Borough Council's legal agreement with the developer of Augusta Park states that they make a contribution towards the provision of a signalised crossing on Viking Way. This is due to the additional traffic that that development creates. However, proposals for a crossing had stalled – with the County Council suggesting that they 'continue to monitor the situation' whilst considering alternative options to improve pedestrian access.
I'm pleased our persistence has now paid off though – and I thank Cllr Humby for listening to parents, pupils and pedestrians. A proper crossing will make life a lot safer for our schoolchildren.
