Waste - Don't Get Caught Out

Following a string of fly tip incidents, Test Valley Borough Council are asking residents to check the legitimacy of any businesses they hire to remove waste from their property. Over the past few weeks, Andover has experienced a spate of cold calling from illegitimate businesses which has resulted in large amounts of garden waste being fly-tipped in the area. You can help keep our Borough keep rubbish free by: • Checking that businesses are a registered waste carrier. If in doubt, you can phone the Environment Agency on 03708 506506 or visit their website.• Checking where the...

New Mayor of Test Valley & Annual Leaders Speech

Congratulations to Cllr Ian Carr and his wife Beryl, who yesterday became the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley Borough Council at our Annual Council Meeting. My grateful thanks go to the retiring Mayor and Mayoress, Carl Borg-Neal and his mother, Maria Neal - who have done a fantastic job over the last 12 months. As well as investing the new Mayor, the meeting provided me with an opportunity to give the Annual Leader's speech: "Thank you, Mr Mayor. Firstly, may I congratulate you on your election. I know you will make a first-class Mayor of Test Valley. Mr Mayor, I pledged in my speech...

TVBC helps Methodist Church with Funeral Arrangements

Test Valley Borough Council has agreed to waive the fee to suspend a loading bay outside of Bridge Street Methodist Church to ensure funerals can take place without hindrance. One of our parking enforcement officers initially raised a concern as the loading bay and part of the nearby bus stop had been coned off preventing the public from using it. Upon investigation we discovered it was to allow a hearse to park as sometimes the church has had problems with the bay being blocked when a funeral cortege was about to arrive. We were pleased to help the church by agreeing they may cone off...

Litter Pick in Augusta Park

Clearing the cobwebs from the Mayors Ball at the Big Augusta Park litter pick this morning. It was great to have litter royalty and our very own Attitude of Gratitude campaigner, Manuela Wahnon, with us to assist. As my friend and Environment Minister often says #DontBeATosser

Noise Prosecution Success

A couple from Rownhams have been found guilty of breaching a noise abatement notice twice last year. Test Valley Borough Council successfully prosecuted the couple after they held two parties on the May bank holiday weekends in 2017 despite being issued with the noise abatement notice in March 2016. They have each been fined £1,900. We don't want to stop people having fun but when they are consistently impacting their neighbours – and in this case the parties were so loud this was not just their immediate neighbours – then we will take robust action.

Official Opening of YMCA in Augusta Park

Earlier this week I attended the official opening of the new YMCA Andover centre in Augusta Park. The popular new facility hosts a nursery and modern community space for children, families and local residents. I recently awarded YMCA a £1,000 Councillor Community Grant to purchase equipment for their new Tuesday night Youth Group, which is due to be launched very soon and I'm sure will be very popular.

New Public Artwork for Augusta Park - Have Your Say

Test Valley is inviting Augusta Park residents to view and comment on designs for two new pieces of public art. The Augusta Open Space initiative has hosted workshops, exhibitions, treasure hunts and walks where residents have contributed their ideas for the art and helped to shape the artists' brief. Plans are now progressing well and the designs will be on display at the Augusta Park Community Centre until 9 April. The themes that stemmed from this work include the nature surrounding the site and the idea of growth and organic forms, the use of the land for farming and agriculture, and...

Job Centre Plus Opens at Beech Hurst

I was delighted to invite the new DWP Minister and local MP, Kit Malthouse to the Test Valley Borough Council offices last week as we officially welcomed Andover Job Centre Plus to their new home at Beech Hurst. The Council has a good track record of bringing forward projects to make the best use of our buildings. We already host several of Hampshire County Council's services, NHS Children's Therapy and now with Jobcentre Plus, Beech Hurst really has become a one-stop shop for public services – with the added advantage of providing great value for money for taxpayers. For more...
